Straw

Ok so its like a medieval european peasant society, but at like a very primal moment in the history of the area, so they almost appear like cavemen even thoug its much much later thn that, ya know? And then like because they're so isolated they make due with what they can to subsist in the same spot that the village is in so like all their clothes are made of like straw. Like there's animal hide and this straw like material. So like there's no cotton technology, really no fabric technology here yet, so like they handcraft and weave the local plants into their clothing and other daily life materials. The local plant is weird though, or at least the part of the plant thart theyre using. Like, it's not thin like our textile thread, but it's not super think like a damn dried corn husk, of some kind of wheat sheaf or anything like that. It's like a medium sized, durable, pliable strand of vegetable matter. One that just so happens to look quite nice when crafted into the local fashions.

But then what if there was the guy, the first guy who went to where the village collectively assembles their crafts and clothing and picked up the scraps to experiment with them and found out that with the tiny pieces of straw like material left in the community crafting basin he could fashion a rudimentary towel out of the fabric resulting in a functional and absorbent, if flimsy (perhaps one time use) towel. That guy would be going crazy in that village. He'd be like cleaning up all the spills. But really he'd seem like he had magic powers to be able to make the straw square change shape in an instant could look to some as if he were using magic powers.
